S O N A T (Sounds of Nature - Acoustic Archive)

SONAT, our private collection of audio recordings, started in 2002 and contains recordings of animal sounds (mainly birds) and soundscapes from Mexico and other areas. To date, the majority of the sounds are recorded in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, but recordings from other regions of Mexico and other  countries are being archived as well. Our recordings are made with the objective of documenting the sounds of nature in Mexico and other geographic regions. Recordings are produced using different recording systems, such as monaural, stereo, and multi-channel systems, and the recordings are made for different purposes, including recordings made during our spare time to recordings collected for scientific purposes.

An example of some birdsong recordings of our collection:

     Brown Thrasher (Toxostoma rufum)

     Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina)

Hummingbirds (Calypte anna y Calypte costae)

     Spot-breasted Wren (Thryothorus maculipectus)

     Ovenbird (Seiurus aurocapillus)

If you are interesrted in Bioacoustics and bird songs in Mexico, we invite you to join the yahoo group BIOACUSTICA-MEXICO. This group provides a forum for nature recordists throughout Mexico and Latin America to discuss bioacoustics research and recording techniques and equipment, inform members of upcoming workshops and events, and provide a means by which members can share their sound recordings.
